Does adult education make a difference?: The results of a survey in eight European countries
In this report, is presented the results of a survey conducted in eight European countries, measuring to what extent adult education programs realized an increase in social inclusion. Moreover, it is studied which elements in the learning and life environment of the participants contribute to the increase of social inclusion. The current study aims to take a first step in measuring to what extent vulnerable adults show an increase in social inclusion after participating in adult education programs in eight European countries. Moreover, this study addresses the questions (1) which individual characteristics (trainees 'background variables and the trainees' self-directedness in learning) predict increase in social inclusion and (2) which elements of the learning environment contribute to the increase in social inclusion. Elements of the learning environment taken into account are: training design features (teacher support; learning content and activities; transfer climate: possibilities and direct surroundings) and the trainees life circumstances (personal life-circumstances, barriers, upbringing & work and care).
